IBM and the Basque Government will install Europe's first IBM Quantum System Two at the IBM-Euskadi Quantum Computational Center in Spain by late 2025. Upgraded from the originally planned Quantum System One, it will feature IBM’s 156-qubit Quantum Heron processor, advancing research in physics, materials science, and sustainability under the IKUR 2030 initiative.
The center aims to position the Basque Country as a quantum computing leader, fostering workforce development and innovation. IBM Vice President Jay Gambetta highlighted the system’s role in driving quantum advantage, while Basque President Imanol Pradales emphasized its impact on scientific and economic growth.
