On March 20, 2025, during The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders, CEO Bob Iger announced that *Coco 2* is officially in development at Pixar Animation Studios. The sequel to the 2017 Academy Award-winning film *Coco* is currently in the early stages of production and promises to be filled with “humor, heart and adventure,” according to Iger.

*Coco 2* brings back key creatives from the original film, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen, known for his work on *Toy Story 4* and *Inside Out 2*, will produce.

The original *Coco* introduced audiences to Miguel, a 12-year-old boy who journeys to the Land of the Dead to uncover the truth about his family’s ban on music. The film was both a critical and commercial success, earning two Academy Awards—Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Remember Me”)—as well as a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and multiple Critics’ Choice Awards.

More details about *Coco 2* are expected to be shared as development progresses.
