Broadcom Enhances Private Cloud Security with Advanced VMware vDefend Features
On March 26, 2025, Broadcom introduced major updates to VMware vDefend, its security platform for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), aimed at simplifying and accelerating private cloud lateral security. The enhancements include real-time security assessments, micro-segmentation as code, and expanded protection capabilities for air-gapped environments.
Key updates include a Security Segmentation Assessment Report that provides visibility into application interactions and potential risks, along with actionable policy recommendations for a zero trust security posture. Broadcom also upgraded its Security Services Platform (SSP) to streamline deployment and lifecycle management while supporting large-scale VCF deployments.
The vDefend Distributed Firewall now enables micro-segmentation as code, allowing organizations to embed security policies directly into application deployment workflows. Additionally, the Network Detection and Response feature now supports closed-network environments, ensuring comprehensive threat protection in highly secure settings.
Independent validation underscores vDefend’s value. It received an AAA rating from SE Labs for threat prevention and, according to a Forrester Consulting study, delivered a 116% ROI while reducing cyber breach risk by 40% and security operations costs by 25%.
vDefend is currently available as an Advanced Service for VMware Cloud Foundation.
