Uber and WeRide Partner with Dubai RTA to Launch Autonomous Vehicles

Uber and autonomous vehicle company WeRide have announced a new partnership with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to introduce autonomous vehicles (AVs) to the city’s streets. This collaboration supports Dubai’s goal of converting 25% of all city journeys to autonomous transport by 2030, under its Self-Driving Transport Strategy.

WeRide, which became the first AV provider licensed for public roads in the UAE in 2023, will be Uber’s first technology partner in the region. The pilot phase will use Uber’s platform to connect riders with AVs, focusing on seamless service integration, safety, data insights, and regulatory alignment.

The initiative follows WeRide's commercial AV launch in Abu Dhabi via Uber in December 2024 and represents Uber’s continued efforts to scale autonomous mobility globally. The project is expected to evolve over the coming months with more details to follow.
