Chipotle to Enter Mexican Market with First Restaurant Opening Planned for 2026
Chipotle Mexican Grill has signed a development agreement with Alsea, S.A.B. de C.V. to open its first restaurant in Mexico by early 2026. This marks Chipotle’s initial entry into the Mexican market, leveraging Alsea’s extensive regional experience to explore further expansion opportunities.
Chipotle’s Chief Business Development Officer Nate Lawton stated the company’s fresh and responsibly sourced food is expected to appeal to Mexican consumers. Alsea CEO Armando Torrado highlighted the partnership as a means to introduce world-class dining experiences to Mexican customers.
This move follows Chipotle’s 2023 expansion into the Middle East through a partnership with Alshaya Group, which now includes restaurants in Kuwait and the UAE. Chipotle currently operates more than 3,700 restaurants globally, with a target of 7,000 in the U.S. and Canada alone.
Alsea operates over 4,700 units across Latin America and Europe, managing a portfolio of global food and beverage brands.
