Amazon continues to lead in renewable energy initiatives as the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy globally for the fifth consecutive year. As part of its Climate Pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, the company has invested in over 600 renewable energy projects worldwide. These initiatives, including wind and solar farms, are capable of powering the equivalent of 8.3 million U.S. homes.

Amazon prioritizes projects in regions with carbon-intensive energy grids, such as India, South Africa, Poland, and Greece, to maximize environmental impact. For example, in India, nine utility-scale renewable projects aim to reduce 55 times more carbon emissions annually compared to similar projects in decarbonized regions. In South Africa, Amazon’s first renewable energy project helps small consumers access clean energy, while in Poland and Greece, utility-scale projects support governmental renewable energy goals.

Amazon’s efforts also extend to energy storage and advanced technologies to enhance grid stability. The company has enabled 2.7 gigawatts of energy storage capacity and invested in innovative technologies like machine learning-powered systems for monitoring and optimizing renewable energy projects.

Since 2014, Amazon’s renewable energy projects have generated over $12 billion in community investments, supported 39,000 full-time equivalent jobs, and driven significant economic benefits in hard-to-decarbonize regions. These initiatives reflect Amazon’s commitment to global decarbonization, sustainable energy transition, and collaborative efforts with stakeholders. www.aboutamazon.com
