Cloudflare Acquires Outerbase to Enhance Developer Experience for AI-Driven Applications

Cloudflare has announced its acquisition of Outerbase, a developer-centric database company, to enhance database capabilities and streamline the developer experience for building AI-powered applications on the Cloudflare Developer Platform. The integration aims to make it easier for developers of all levels to create scalable, database-backed applications across Cloudflare’s global network.

Outerbase, already built on Cloudflare Workers, will be integrated with tools like Durable Objects, D1, and Cloudflare’s Agents SDK, enabling developers to build intelligent, contextual applications without deep SQL knowledge. This move supports Cloudflare’s vision of democratizing access to modern development tools and meeting growing demand for applications that utilize AI agents and conversational data.

The acquisition reinforces Cloudflare’s role in the AI and developer tool ecosystem by simplifying data management and enhancing scalability. Outerbase’s technology will now become part of Cloudflare’s unified platform, helping developers deploy robust applications with speed and reliability.
CLOUDFLARE ADDS THREE NEW BOARD MEMBERS TO DRIVE FUTURE GROWTH AND INNOVATION

Cloudflare appointed three new members to its board of directors: Stacey Cunningham, former President of the New York Stock Exchange; John Graham-Cumming, former Cloudflare CTO; and Dr. Karim Lakhani, a Harvard Business School professor and AI expert. CEO Matthew Prince praised their combined expertise in finance, technology, and AI transformation as key assets for Cloudflare’s continued growth and innovation.

Stacey Cunningham brings financial leadership and operational insight, currently serving as an operating partner at Advent International. John Graham-Cumming, with deep technical roots at Cloudflare, played a major role in building the company's core infrastructure and now returns in a governance role. Dr. Karim Lakhani, a specialist in digital transformation and AI, adds a strategic academic perspective, particularly in guiding companies through AI integration.

These appointments come as Maria Eitel steps down after seven years on the board, having played a pivotal role during Cloudflare’s IPO and governance development. Cloudflare remains focused on building a better Internet, supported by one of the world’s largest interconnected networks.
